HOWARD COUNTY NOTES

ST. LOUIS CONCERT SERIES "Celebrate! Sounds of Season 17" with Sept. 25 Opener. Known as "America's Big Band," The U.S. Army's Jazz Ambassadors kick off the 17th Season of the St. Louis Concert Series with a free community event in Clarksville Commons 4pm Sunday, Sept. 25. This premier jazz ensemble opens in the retail center and food court in the heart of Clarksville, near the St. Louis Church campus. Bring your lawn chairs to this outdoor performance; food and drink are available in the Commons. The Ambassadors' medley ranges from classic big band standards, patriotic favorites, instrumental and vocal solos -- to contemporary jazz works and original arrangements and compositions. Series Artistic Director Colleen Daly Eberhardt says the mission of this season's non-profit Series' of five classical and pops events hosted by the Clarksville Church is to "enliven, educate and entertain audiences with outstanding talent from the DMV area and beyond." QUILT BINGO Four County Quilters Guild is hosting their "Quilt Bingo" on Sunday, October 9, at the Mt. Airy Volunteer Fire Company's Reception Hall on Twin Arch Road in Mt. Airy. The bingo will feature quilts made by members as the prizes. Doors open at 12:00; Lunch is served at 12:30; Bingo begins at 2:00. Tickets are $35 and price includes 20 regular games, lunch (prepared by the fire company auxiliary), and a ticket for the many door prizes that will be given away. Reserved seating is available for parties of 8 or more. Additional features include four specials, a jackpot, basket raffles and 50/50. ST. LOUIS CONCERT SERIES CELEBRATS OKTOBERFEST Featuring Opera Baltimore with German Fare, Drink, Music in Clarksville. CHURCH TO HOLD FOOD PANTRY Ebenezer United Methodist Church will hold the "Rock of Help" Food Pantry for anyone in the community in need of food from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. the third Saturday of each month at the food pantry building, behind the church, 4901 Woodbine Road, Winfield. Non-perishable foods, assorted frozen foods, a non-food household item and children's shoes are available. Due to COVID restrictions, the food pantry currently is strictly drive-through only. Church staff will put pre-loaded bags of food in your car. The food pantry will be held Saturday Oct. 15, Nov.19 and Dec. 17, 2022. The church is one-half mile south of Liberty Road on Woodbine Road. PRAYER SHAWL GROUP A Prayer Shawl Group that meets every Tuesday from 1-3pm in the Parish Center.
