SUMMER LIFE SKILLS CLASSES: REGISTRATION NOW OPEN! In July and August, HC DrugFree will be providing our next series of online Life Skills classes for youth in grades 6-8. Students will be taught and mentored by our team of high school and college students as well as adults. While having fun in a safe environment, this highly interactive and skills-based program is designed to promote positive health and personal development. The integrated approach helps to develop personal, interpersonal, and drug resistance skills. This middle school program uses developmentally appropriate, collaborative learning strategies to help students achieve competency in the skills that have been shown to help students resist substance use (tobacco, alcohol and other drugs), violence, and other high-risk behaviors. This FREE training will be conducted online and held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from July 7 to August 6. Visit for more information.

GOLF TOURNAMENT RESCHEDULED Volunteers from six Carroll County Lions Clubs - Deer Park, Freedom District, Greater Carroll, Roaring Run, South Carroll and Taylorsville-Winfield - will be hosting the 19th Annual Lions Club Golf Tournament in honor of Past International Director Richard Liebno, on the rescheduled date of Friday, August 28th, 2020 at the Oakmont Green Golf Course, 2290 Golfview Lane, Hampstead, MD 21074. 100% of the money raised through sponsorships will be donated to the American Diabetes Association(r), utilized for diabetes research; the Lions Vision Research Foundation, Inc., utilized to support low vision research and rehabilitation; and the Lions District 22W Hearing Preservation, Awareness, and Action Program, utilized to provide assistance to those with hearing loss. CHURCH TO HOLD FOOD PANTRY Ebenezer United Methodist Church will hold the "Rock of Help" Food Pantry for anyone in the community in need of food from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on the third Saturday of each month at the new food pantry building, behind the church and its new addition, 4901 Woodbine Road, near Winfield. Non-perishable foods, assorted frozen foods, plus a non-food household item, and children's shoes, are available. Those coming to the food pantry are asked to fill out a short information sheet, then the church gives them a list of available foods. The food pantry will be held June 20, July 18, Aug. 15, Sept. 19, Oct. 17, Nov. 21 and Dec. 19, 2020. The church is one-half mile south of Liberty Road on Woodbine Road. Frederick County Notes

CARIBBEAN WINE, MUSIC & FOOD FESTIVAL August 22 & 23, 10am-6pm. While live music fills the air, sip Linganore wines and enjoy the mellow vibes. The Caribbean Festival at Linganore Winecellars is one of the most popular wine festivals on the East Coast. Wine samplings are included in the cost of admission, there will also be and tours, wonderful vendors with art & crafts, great food, and of course, great music. No refunds. The event is rain or shine. Saturday tickets can only be used for entry on Saturday. Sunday tickets can only be used for entry on Sunday. Tickets are not transferable to another festival. V.I.P. Tickets are available for the first time at this festival, which includes exclusive indoor bathrooms and seating, plus specialty tastings. V.I.P. Tickets are $65.

5TH ANNUAL LINGANORE WINECELLARS CROSS COUNTRY CLASSIC will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2020. Three distances, 5 mile, 10 mile, and Half Marathon will utilize a scenic 5 mile loop course through the vineyards, fields and surrounding wooded area. The Half Marathon will start at 8:00AM, the 10 Mile will start at 8:15AM, and the 5 Mile will start at 8:30AM. The Linganore races are a challenge, but "fun running at a great place" might be an apt phrase to describe the event! With free wine tasting coupons (for those 21 and older) handed out to runners, and with excellent wines and beers to try/drink/consume after running, everyone will hopefully enjoy themselves in the vineyard, tasting room, and brewery. To register, click Early registration prices are $45 for the 5 miler, $55 for the 10 miler, and $60 for the half marathon. Starting June 1st, registration prices will be $50 for the 5 Miler, $60 for the 10 Miler, and $70 for the half marathon. Online registration ends Friday September 25th at 4:00PM. Runners can also register for the race at packet pickup on Saturday afternoon September 26th from 4-5PM, and at packet pickup race morning starting at 7:00AM. ACCORDION/CONCERTINA/FREE REED MUSICIANS The Maryland Accordion Club meets 2-5pm, on the first Saturday of each month, May thru June, in Catonsville United Methodist Church, 6 Melvin Ave., Catonsville, MD. Our current members reside in Anne Arundel Baltimore, Carroll, Calvert, Frederick, Harford, Howard, Kent, Montgomery, and Prince George's Counties, DC, DE, and VA. Each meeting includes an "open stage" session where accordionists, concertina, harmonium, and players of other free reed, acoustic, and folk instruments perform at every proficiency level in styles ranging from classical to jazz across world-wide traditions.
